Victor Broad - Chair of the Conservators

After a career in the City, Victor became the local Councillor for Tadworth and Walton 16 years ago, serving as Council Leader for his last six years. During the whole of this period he was a member of the Banstead Conservator’s Committee being elected Chairman in 2022. He is a Chartered Insurer, an Associate of the Chartered insurance Institute and a Member of the Expert Witness Institute.

Councillor Nadean Moses

Nadean was appointed as a Conservator by Reigate and Banstead Borough Council in 2019. Having gained an appreciation and knowledge about Banstead Commons and the environment from fellow Conservators, in 2023, Nadean became the portfolio holder for Environment and Sustainability and Greenspaces on the Executive. Nadean is a landscape gardener at The Wisley Golf Club and focuses her spare time working with the Council to protect and preserve greenspaces and wildlife across the borough. 

Councillor Peter Harp

Peter has a background in archaeology and environmental science and has been a local resident for over 50 years. He is a former trustee and director of the Surrey Archaeological Society, committee member of the Lithics Studies Society based at the British Museum, and Secretary of both the Banstead History Research Group & the Surrey Prehistoric Group.

Currently, Peter serves as a councillor for Nork ward at Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, serving as a Conservator and the council’s “Heritage Champion”, Chairman of the Standards Committee and member of the Planning Committee. Peter believes passionately in the natural and historic environment, protecting and enhancing these through his work in heritage, government and volunteer groups.

Ben Steele

Ben has lived in London for nearly 20 years, moving to Belmont in 2019. He regularly walks on Banstead Downs, enjoying the flora, fauna and the woods with his family. Ben is a communications professional and trained journalist, with experience in media relations, corporate communications, public affairs, social media and crisis communications. He has also regularly volunteered on conservation projects across the capital.

Ben became a Conservator to use his professional skills to protect and promote Banstead Commons for future generations, and to learn more about the conservation and land management required to preserve these precious green spaces for the local area.

David Atkins

David worked, as a prosecuting solicitor, for West Sussex County Council (1978-1987) and for the Crown Prosecution Service, from its inception (1987) until retirement in 2011. He has a particular knowledge of the law relating to Banstead Commons and often informally advise the Conservators on the meaning and enforceability of the bye laws.

Having resided in Walton and Tadworth since 1972, David has alliances with members of the community and organisations, such the Tadworth and Walton Residents’ Association and Walton Village Forum. Most days will find David, at some time, on Banstead Heath, either by himself or with family members enjoying the landscapes and wildlife within.

Nathan Mollett

Nathan is a successful Asset Finance professional with over 20 years’ experience in the industry. After spending 15 years with Wesleyan Bank as Sales Director he moved to Metro Bank in 2015 to lead their asset finance business. Over five years he was instrumental in growing Metro Bank’s asset finance balances and has since moved to United Trust Bank as the Bank’s new Head of Asset Finance. Nathan is also a Board Director of The Leasing Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that supports the business finance sector through innovation; the development of young people; and diversity and inclusion.

Family man and father to Oliver, Jess and Seb, when he’s not at work or spending time with the family, Nathan is training on Banstead Commons in preparation for his next marathon or ironman competition.

David Hatcher

After a long career in public service, David retired to set up his own consultancy company. He was then selected to become the first chairman of the Veterans’ Gateway, the first port of call for military charities, and has also chaired or sat on a number of other boards. When the pandemic struck, he gave that up to avoid travel and looked instead to the countryside. He was recruited to manage a small country estate and also started volunteering for the Woodland Trust, Banstead Commons Conservators, Butterfly Conservation UK and other nature-based organisations. 

David is now a speaker and guided walk leader for the Woodland Trust as well as helping with wildlife surveys and the occasional physical task. He is married with two adult sons and lives near Epsom Downs.

John Mill

A solicitor by training and now a consultant, John practises in the areas of commercial property and company and commercial law. Throughout his career, John has held, and continues to hold, various executive and non-executive directorships and has served as president and/or chairman of several local professional bodies. For many years, he has been a trustee of the South Croydon Centre – a charitable organisation that provides meals, entertainment and fellowship for the elderly and infirm within the South Croydon area. He also acts as the centre’s honorary solicitor.

John has lived in Kingswod for over 30 years and until recently enjoyed walking his chocolate Labrador over Banstead Heath.
