Guided Walk Programme 2024
Banstead Commons Conservators host a programme of guided walks each year. They are a great opportunity to understand how and why the Commons are conserved to enhance biodiversity as well as their history and archaeology. You will also enjoy beautiful landscapes that could take you back in time to a world of tranquil beauty and clean fresh air.
Walk numbers are limited and there is a suggested donation of £5 to reserve a place. Places will be issued on a first come first-served basis. Dogs on leads are welcome.

Dawn Chorus Walk on Banstead Heath
Wednesday 1 May, 6am until 8am
Join Conservator David Hatcher for a walk around Banstead Heath and enjoy the euphony of bird song that can be heard on the common during peak breeding season. We’ll help you to identify birds by their song and find out more about the nesting preferences of our much-loved British birds.

Thursday 6 June, 10am until 12pm
On this short walk you will learn more about the management of this Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). You’ll find out about how it has resulted in the reappearance of typical chalk plant species and exploding butterfly populations, as well as other much loved native wildlife which can be found on Park Downs.

Join our leisurely wander across the heath to learn more about the recyclers of the natural world and why they’re so important to our survival.
Foraging is not permitted on Banstead Commons. Apart from identification purposes, mushrooms will not be picked during this event.
