Guided Walk Programme

Banstead Commons Conservators host a programme of guided walks each year.  They are a great opportunity to understand how and why the Commons are conserved to enhance biodiversity as well as their history and archaeology.  You will also enjoy beautiful landscapes that could take you back in time to a world of tranquil beauty and clean fresh air.

Historical and archaeological features of Banstead Downs

Thursday 7 September 2023, 2pm until 4pm

Join Conservator Cllr. Peter Harp for a walk looking at some of the historical and archaeological features on this part of the Commons.  Leaving from Banstead Downs Golf Club, you will take a leisurely stroll through history looking at the Saxon burial ground, Potters Lane and other historical features on the common.

Walk of Remembrance on Banstead Heath

Friday 10 November 2023, 10am until 12pm

Banstead Heath and its villages played an important role in both world wars. Signs of its martial use can still be found.  Join local historian Timothy Richardson for a short walk around Banstead Heath to find out more.

Walk numbers are limited and there is a suggested donation of £5 to reserve a place.  Places will be issued on a first come first-served basis.  Dogs on leads are welcome.

"Banstead Downs is a precious site with such floristic diversity.  It was an amazing experience to see so many Chalkhill Blues and Brimstones.  It was simply one of the best days ever that I've had butterfly spotting!"
