The Crabtree Society Angling

Burgh Heath pond has always been an important feature on BCC land and (something here about the biodiversity of this environment?)

We have partnered with an antique fishing group, The Crabtree Society, as a means of contributing to the preservation of the pond and the fauna of the area. Chris Yates is an angler, broadcaster and author, famous for numerous BBC radio documentaries and dozens of publications including ‘Casting at the sun’. In this book, Chris recalls his childhood spent learning to fish at Burgh Heath pond which he affectionately terms ‘Treasure Island’. David from the society made contact with the BCC to arrange an opportunity to fish a pond which was so pivotal to Chris Yates, an idol to many of the members. Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, who own the piscatorial rights, provided special dispensation for this activity and in return, the fishermen kindly cleared debris from the area, even bringing waders to remove rubbish from the water.
